AI Receipt Generator

Describe what you want and it writes the store, the line items, the tax and the payment block for you. Ask for “a gas station receipt for around $42” or “a sushi bar in Chicago, in euros”, then download a print-ready PNG or PDF at 300 DPI.

It is running below, not a waiting list. Switch to the Editor tab at any point to change a field by hand.

How to

How the AI Receipt Generator Works

  1. 1

    Describe what you want

Type it into the box at the top of this page. Name a store, a total, a city, a currency, or a handful of items. Vague is fine, and there is nothing to install or sign up for.

  2. 2

Keep talking until it is right

Every follow-up edits the same receipt instead of starting over, so you can change the total, add a line, then switch currency in three separate messages.

  3. 3

    Download it

Export a PNG or a PDF at 300 DPI straight from the preview. Open the full editor if you want to change paper width, fonts or the order of the blocks.

Prompts

What to Ask For, and How to Phrase It

Every message edits the receipt that is already open rather than starting a new one, so you can work in small steps. Start from the sample above, or open any store template and steer from there. Every field your instruction does not mention is copied across untouched.

Change the store to a sushi bar in Chicago

Rewrites the business name, address, phone and the whole item list at once, and keeps your paper size and layout.

Make this a gas station receipt for $42.10

Prices fuel and snack lines to land near the figure you name. Tax is added on top, so say “make the total exactly $42.10” if you need it to the cent.

Add three grocery items and set tax to 6%

Appends new lines to what is already there and changes the tax rate, leaving the store and payment block alone.

Switch the currency to euros

Sets the ISO currency code so every price and total reformats. Name a country and it will pick the right code.

Four things that make an instruction land

Work in small steps
Every message edits the same receipt. “Make it a hardware store”, then “add six items”, then “bring the total near $80” beats one long paragraph.
Name what you want kept
The model rewrites the whole receipt each time, so an unmentioned block can drift. “Change the store but keep the items” holds the lines you liked.
Give it something concrete
Numbers and places land well: around $42, in Chicago, in euros, yesterday at 8:15. Vague direction like “make it look real” gives it nothing to act on.
Do not ask for layout
Paper width, fonts, colours and block order are in the Editor tab. Asking for a 58mm slip in chat will not move it, because the model cannot reach those fields.

Accuracy

Why the Totals Always Add Up

Most AI tools ask a language model to produce a finished receipt, including the subtotal and the total. Language models are poor at arithmetic, which is why those receipts often print a total that does not match the lines above it. Anyone who reads receipts for a living spots it immediately.

Receipt Canvas splits the job. The model returns only the things it is good at: a plausible store, a sensible list of items, a tax percentage and a tip. The app then calculates the subtotal, the tax and the total from those line items.

The practical effect is that even a vague request produces a receipt that reconciles. Ask for a gas station receipt for around $42 and you get fuel and snack lines that genuinely sum to the printed subtotal, with tax and the total derived from them.

Naming a figure gets you close rather than exact, because tax is applied on top of the lines. If you need a specific number on the TOTAL row, say so in a follow-up, or type it into the editor yourself.

Scope

What the AI Changes, and What It Leaves Alone

Layout and styling are deliberately outside the model’s reach. A request to change the store cannot quietly reformat your 80mm thermal slip into an A4 page, or drop a block you added.

Fixes

If It Does Not Do What You Meant

Nothing here is destructive. The preview toolbar has undo and redo, so you can always step back to the version before a bad edit and try a different wording.

It rewrote line items I wanted to keep
The model returns the whole receipt on every turn, so a block you did not mention can drift. Press undo, then repeat the request with “keep the current items” on the end.
The total is not the number I asked for
Tax is applied on top of the line items, so naming a figure sets the subtotal rather than the total. Ask for “a total of exactly $42.10”, or set the prices yourself in the Editor tab.
It ignored my paper size or font
Those are not fields the model can write. Switch to the Editor tab and open Settings, where paper width, font, alignment and colours live.
It said something went wrong
The request failed or was declined. Rephrase it more plainly, or make the change by hand in the Editor tab. Your receipt is untouched either way.

Starting points

Start From a Real Store Layout

The AI works best when it is editing rather than inventing. Open a store template first, then describe your changes. The layout, the code fields and the payment block are already right for that chain.

FAQ

Common Questions

Is the AI receipt generator free?
Yes. There is no account, no card and no watermark on the export. Ask for as many changes as you like, then download the result as a PNG or a PDF at 300 DPI.
Does it read a photo of an existing receipt?
No. It writes a new receipt from your description, or edits the one already open in the editor. If you want to copy a specific store, start from a matching receipt template and describe your changes from there.
Can the AI get the arithmetic wrong?
No, because it is never asked to do the arithmetic. The model returns line items, a tax percentage and a tip. Receipt Canvas calculates the subtotal, tax and total from those, so the numbers on the finished receipt always reconcile.
What can the AI not change?
Paper width, font, text and background colour, alignment, which blocks appear and in what order, and any logo image you uploaded. Those stay exactly as you set them, so a request to change the store cannot quietly reformat your 80mm slip into an A4 page. Change them yourself in the receipt editor.
Which currencies does it support?
Any ISO 4217 code. Ask for euros, yen, rupees or pounds, or name a country and it will choose the matching code. Prices and totals reformat for that currency automatically.
Is it legal to make a receipt with AI?
Making a receipt-shaped image for a mockup, a test fixture, a class or a film prop is fine. Passing one off as proof of a purchase that never happened is fraud. See what Receipt Canvas is for for the one rule we ask you to follow.
